Shinnecock Residence

Southampton, New York

This three-generation home and guest house sits on a 7.5-acre peninsula on Shinnecock Bay. MBLA’s design transforms the site from lawn monoculture to a native meadow with glades of trees, drifts of salt tolerant shrubs, and a network of paths connecting the main house, guest house and dock. The entry drive passes through a vertical steel gate and into a grove of large white oaks. Defined by the architecture, the arrival courtyard features a single specimen tree in a simple plane of groundcover. The interior of the home opens out to expansive stone terraces that include a pool and spa, an outdoor dining area, a reflecting pool, and a heath and heather garden.
